Albany State University

Albany State University (ASU) serves southwest Georgia in many ways. One of the more significant ways is through its School of Education and its education leadership program. With foundation support, the School of Education reinvented its Tier II education leadership program. At Albany State’s invitation, PSA is conducting an in-depth case study of the process that has resulted in an increase in student applications, enrollment, and school district satisfaction with ASU’s graduates. The case study will be published in an academic journal.

Global Learning in Community Colleges

For the Center for Global Education (CGE) at Asia Society, PSA is evaluating a pilot project aimed at developing global learning professional development curriculum for community college career and technical education (CTE) faculty and students. The professional development will consist of a series of modules focused on teaching and learning strategies enabling community college faculty to integrate global employability skills into their current curriculum while simultaneously helping to improve their teaching overall. As part of the five-year evaluation, PSA will design pre- and post-course survey instruments for staff and students, develop an implementation rubric, and conduct interviews and focus groups with pilot participants and campus administrators to ascertain how faculty are applying what they learned from the professional development; how they are using the resources and tools in their classrooms; and if this has made a greater impact across their campuses.

The module content builds on a white paper developed by PSA for CGE with a grant from the ECMC Foundation, which demonstrates the importance of global competence for all workers, particularly in the career and technical education fields, and provides examples of successfully strategies to integrate global competence—from curriculum integration to global certificate programs—currently happing in community colleges across the country.
