Children’s Aid

PSA conducted a 5-year evaluation of the Children’s Aid Parent Leadership Institute, funded through a federal Investing in Innovation (i3) grant. The core theory of the PLI is that increasing parent engagement in schools, parent knowledge of school operations and what schools expect from students, and parent leadership skills will facilitate improved student engagement and achievement. PSA interviewed parents, teachers, staff, and school principals in South Bronx schools to identify the extent to which fidelity of implementation targets were met. Through a Comparative Interrupted Times Series design that met What Works Clearinghouse standards with reservations, PSA also conducted impact analyses using NYCDOE student-level data to compare attendance and state assessment outcomes for participating and comparison schools.
