Evaluation of the Center for After-School Excellence
PSA is conducting a three-year evaluation of the Center for After-School Excellence. The mission of the Center is to improve the skills, capacities, and knowledge of after-school program staff through support for programs of university-based training, supplemented by research. The first phase of the evaluation of the Center focused on the implementation of Center-supported credential courses at City University of New York campuses. The evaluation is also examining youth workers’ satisfaction with the educational opportunities, financial incentives, and social supports offered through the Center. In later years of the evaluation, PSA will examine the education and career outcomes of youth workers who completed the credential programs and the effect of these programs on after-school instruction and staff quality.

Report on First-Year Implementation of Certificate Programs

The report describes the first year of implementation of the Center’s certificate courses and participant experiences in the program. The report examines recruitment strategies and participants’ characteristics and reasons for enrolling in the university-based courses, as well as their overall satisfaction with the courses and with the supports and incentives received.
